PIKEVILLE, NC – Residents in the Town of Pikeville may soon notice town employees and contractors from AMI working in neighborhoods as the town begins installing new digital water meters for all customers.
Town officials said the new meters will connect digitally through updated software designed to improve water system efficiency and provide benefits such as leak detection capabilities. Once the project is complete, every water meter in town will have been replaced.
According to the town, installation crews may be seen on or around private property during the process. Workers will either be members of the town staff or individuals displaying the AMI logo.
Before installation begins, an AMI representative will knock on the resident’s door to explain the process and answer questions. If no one is home, a door hanger containing the necessary information will be left behind.
Under normal conditions, the meter replacement typically takes about 15 minutes. However, installations could take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour if additional work is required to replace older equipment.
Customers should also expect a brief water service interruption while the meter is being changed out.
Town officials apologized in advance for the temporary inconvenience and said the upgraded system will provide long-term benefits for customers and the town’s water infrastructure.
Residents with questions are encouraged to contact Town Hall for assistance.
