WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. — Community members gathered Friday evening at the Wayne County Fairgrounds for the 2026 Relay For Life of Wayne County, an event dedicated to celebrating cancer survivors, honoring caregivers, and remembering loved ones lost to cancer.
Hosted by the American Cancer Society, the annual event featured live entertainment, games, vendors, food, a car show, and activities for all ages as participants came together to support cancer research and patient services.
The evening began with a special survivor and caregiver celebration that included a meal and recognition for those impacted by cancer. Survivors also received commemorative T-shirts as part of the event.
One of the most meaningful moments of the night was the luminaria ceremony, where glowing luminaria bags were displayed in memory and honor of individuals who have battled cancer. Organizers said the ceremony serves as a powerful reminder of both loss and hope within the community.
Relay For Life events across the country help raise awareness and support the mission of the American Cancer Society through fundraising, education, and community involvement.
Local organizers encouraged residents to continue supporting the effort year-round through donations, volunteering, and participation in future Relay For Life events.
