WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. — A wet and cool start to the weekend is expected across eastern North Carolina, with steady rain moving in overnight and lingering through Saturday before clearer skies arrive to close out the weekend.
Tonight will bring a chance of rain before 2 a.m., followed by more consistent rainfall developing after 4 a.m. Skies will remain mostly cloudy, with temperatures dipping to around 54 degrees. Winds from the southeast around 5 mph will become calm after midnight. Rainfall totals are expected to remain light, with less than a tenth of an inch possible overnight.
Saturday looks to be the soggiest day of the weekend. Rain is expected throughout the day, with a high near 58 degrees. North winds between 8 and 11 mph, with gusts up to 21 mph, will add a chill to the damp conditions. Rainfall totals could range from a quarter to half an inch.
By Saturday night, rain chances will begin to taper off, with a slight chance of showers lingering between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. Skies will gradually clear overnight, and temperatures will drop to around 42 degrees. Winds will ease and become calm by late evening.
Sunshine returns on Sunday, bringing a much-needed break from the rain. Expect mostly sunny skies and a high near 66 degrees, with light northwest winds between 5 and 8 mph — a pleasant end to an otherwise wet weekend.
