April 23, 2026, 66, Goldsboro – Mike Sauls, 66, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center, surrounded by his loving family.
Mike was born in Wilson County on May 27, 1959, to the late Garland Sauls and Joyce Bass Sauls Boswell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bruce Sauls, and his sister, Kathy Lane.
A 1977 graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School, Mike was determined from an early age to see more of the world beyond his hometown. He enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he proudly served for five years as a military policeman at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. Though his assignment kept him close to home, his service reflected the discipline, integrity, and sense of duty that would guide him throughout his life.
Following his military service, Mike built a successful career as an insurance adjuster, eventually owning and operating his own company, Taylor Adjusting. He also earned his Bachelor of Science degree from East Carolina University. A loyal sports fan, Mike supported East Carolina football and UNC Tar Heel basketball with enthusiasm.
Mike was a man of quiet strength and steady resolve. He held himself to a high standard, always striving to do his best and to serve others with honesty and integrity. Even in the face of life’s challenges, he remained determined and resilient, never losing his sense of humor or his deep love for his family.
His love story with his wife, Allison, began nearly 32 years ago with a first date that would become part of family legend. Though the details of how they first started dating have faded with time, one thing they both always remembered was the music. Mike often joked that Allison only agreed to that first date because he had tickets to see The Rolling Stones and The Eagles. They saw The Rolling Stones first at Carter-Finley Stadium, followed shortly after by The Eagles at what was then known as Walnut Creek.
What began as a lighthearted, music-filled evening grew into a lifetime of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Three years later, they were married in a beautiful ceremony in Jamaica, beginning a marriage that would span 29 wonderful years filled with cherished memories and enduring love.
Mike found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved listening to classic rock with a touch of country, relaxing outdoors in his sweats and flip-flops, and spending meaningful time with those he loved most. He was a devoted father who took great pride in being present in the lives of his sons, sharing with them his passion for NASCAR and cheering on his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt—a love that began with his own father and became a cherished family tradition. Mike also took pride in his Triumph TR6 sports cars and found lighthearted joy in reading the Peanuts comics, especially enjoying his favorite character, Snoopy.
Mike’s determination was perhaps most evident in the way he faced his health challenges. After suffering his first stroke on Super Bowl Sunday in 2012, he pressed forward with remarkable resilience and courage. In an extraordinary and poignant coincidence, his second stroke occurred on Super Bowl Sunday in 2026. Through every hardship, Mike fought a good fight, demonstrating strength, grit, and an unwavering love for those around him.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Allison Warren Sauls; his two sons, Jacob Sauls and Matthew Sauls; and his brother, Tony Sauls and wife, Dawn.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service to celebrate Mike’s life at 12:30 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Barry Stallings officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mike’s memory to the SECU Family House, 123 Old Mason Farm Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27517, or to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
Mike will be remembered for his determination, his steady presence, and the deep love he gave so freely to his family. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the strength he showed each and every day.
