WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. — A 19-year-old Clayton man faces multiple charges following a motorcycle pursuit that began in Wayne County and ended in Sampson County, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office said deputies received numerous calls from concerned citizens reporting a motorcycle being driven erratically and at high speeds in the Grantham area.
Deputies located the motorcycle traveling on N.C. 13 South toward Newton Grove and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the driver refused to stop and fled from deputies, reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph.
The pursuit eventually ended near the intersection of Creel Road and N.C. 55 in Sampson County. Authorities said the driver abandoned the motorcycle and fled on foot into a cornfield. Deputies were unable to locate him at that time.
Investigators later identified the driver as Brayden Kenneth Daker, 19, of Clayton, and obtained warrants for his arrest.
With assistance from the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, Daker was later arrested in Clayton and taken to the Johnston County Detention Center. He received a $40,000 secured bond.
Daker is charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest, resisting a public officer, speeding, no motorcycle endorsement, improper turn, failure to stop for a duly erected stop sign, failure to maintain lane control, driving left of center and no registration plate displayed.
