GOLDSBORO, NC – Wayne Country Day senior swimmer Sarah Wahl has officially signed her letter of intent to continue both her academic and athletic career at Emory University, marking the next chapter for one of the program’s most accomplished athletes.
Wahl, who is ranked 58th in the state of North Carolina, delivered standout performances at the NCISAA Division III State Championship in February, finishing second in both the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.54 and the 50-yard freestyle in 24.67.
Her success in the pool has been matched by consistency and leadership throughout her high school career, earning praise from coaches and administrators alike.
“She’s been a great addition all four years,” said Jeff Davis, Wayne Country Day’s athletic director. “State runner-up this year, swimmer of the year in the conference, and a great student. We’re really, really proud of her. She’s very deserving of all these accolades.”
Wahl reflected on her journey in the sport, crediting her lifelong passion for swimming.
“I’ve been swimming since I was five. I’ve always enjoyed it—I’ve loved the water, and it’s just been a great place for me,” she said. “I swim the 50 free and the 100 free. I love sprint freestyle.”
Her mother, Sallie Wahl, also expressed pride in her daughter’s achievement and future opportunity.
“We are so proud of Sarah and all of her hard work and dedication. We are very excited for all the academic and athletic opportunities that await her at Emory.”
Wahl will join an Emory University program known for its strong academic reputation and competitive swimming tradition, continuing a legacy of success built during her time at Wayne Country Day.
