GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Wayne Community College has introduced a new state-of-the-art simulation lab designed to better prepare Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) cadets for real-world situations.
The college recently unveiled the MILO Range Theater 300, a use-of-force simulator that provides an immersive and realistic training environment for students in the BLET program. The system features five projection screens, surround sound, and trainee weapon sets, allowing cadets to practice responding to multiple threats and high-pressure scenarios.
“The goal of using the MILO 300 system is to not only teach the cadets tactics in realistic, high-pressure scenarios, but also train them in how to communicate, de-escalate, and make sound decisions to help protect everyone they come into contact with,” said Angie Blizzard, Dean of Public Safety at Wayne Community College.
The new lab will enhance hands-on training exercises throughout the BLET program, giving cadets additional opportunities to develop both practical and decision-making skills before entering the field.
In addition to student training, local law enforcement agencies will also have access to the simulator for ongoing officer development and training.
“We want to train officers to go into the field better prepared and committed to protecting the community they serve,” Blizzard said.
BLET students at Wayne Community College learn both physical and cognitive skills necessary for careers in law enforcement. Upon successful completion of the program and passing the state BLET exam, cadets receive certification allowing them to work as sworn law enforcement officers across North Carolina.
The program is accredited and mandated by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission through the state’s community college system.
Officials say the addition of the simulation lab strengthens the college’s commitment to preparing future officers with modern training tools and realistic experiences.
