Goldsboro, N.C. | UNC Health Wayne is pleased to announce Katie Hile, DNP, RN, NE-BC as its new Chief Nursing Officer. Hile previously served as the hospital’s Executive Nursing Director and most recently as Interim CNO, bringing more than 18 years of nursing experience and 14 years of progressive leadership across emergency care, critical care, and acute care services.
Before joining UNC Health Wayne, Hile served at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital in Virginia, where she led multiple clinical units and advanced key initiatives that improved patient outcomes, strengthened team engagement, and enhanced safety performance. Her leadership contributed to national recognition for nursing excellence and innovation.
“Katie’s experience, both clinically and operationally, combined with her natural ability to lead teams with clarity and compassion, makes her an outstanding choice for Chief Nursing Officer,” said UNC Health Wayne CEO, Dr. Jessie Tucker, III. “Her forward-thinking approach and strong commitment to exceptional outcomes will play a vital role in advancing the quality of care we deliver to our community.”
Lorie Rhine, Chief Nurse Executive for UNC Health, expressed enthusiasm about Dr. Hile’s appointment, noting that she will focus on enhancing evidence-based nursing practice, advancing workforce development and innovation, and preparing nursing teams to address future healthcare challenges.
Throughout her career, Hile has demonstrated a passion for building strong teams, supporting professional development, and elevating the patient experience. As CNO, she will continue the work she began as Interim CNO—strengthening communication across departments, identifying opportunities for workflow improvement, and championing initiatives that support recruitment, retention, and clinical growth.
“I am honored to step into this role and continue serving the incredible nursing workforce at UNC Health Wayne,” Hile said. “Our teams bring tremendous skill and compassion to every patient interaction. I look forward to building on our strengths, addressing areas for improvement, and shaping a future that elevates both our practice and the care we provide.”
