December 2, 2025, 84, Kenly — Johnny Mack Johnson, 84, passed away at his home on Tuesday, December 2, 2025. Born in Wilson County, he was the son of the late Ransom Johnson and Eva Mae Cooper Johnson.
In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by his son, Johnny Ray Johnson; brother, “Wild Bill” Johnson; and sister, Joyce Ann Sanders.
Johnny is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Nell Davis Johnson; children, Billy Johnson, and Marsha Batchelor and husband, Ronnie; grandchildren, Crystal Stephenson and husband, Clark, Amanda Johnson, and Karrson Johnson; great-grandchildren, Janna Stephenson, Addie Phillips, and Cora Phillips; brother, Wayne Johnson and wife, Karen; and daughter-in-law, Ellie Johnson.
Johnny spent many years in road construction, where he was known for his strong work ethic, steady hands, and dedication to getting the job done right. Later, he owned and operated his own service station, a place where countless friends and neighbors came not just for help with their vehicles, but for the friendly conversation and kindness he offered so freely.
Johnny had a gift for cooking and found great joy in preparing meals for his family and anyone who happened to stop by. Whether it was a favorite family recipe or something he decided to try, he poured love into everything he made. He also loved to spend time fishing, finding peace and contentment on the water.
Above all, Johnny loved his family. They were the center of his world, and he was happiest when surrounded by those he held dear. He was a faithful attendee of Kenly Church of God, where he found fellowship, strength, and community.
A graveside service to celebrate his life will be held on Sunday, December 7, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Kenly Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
