Freddie Cox Stroud

December 1, 2025, 79, Goldsboro — Freddie Cox Stroud, 79, of Goldsboro, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2025, at Willow Creek. Born June 13, 1946, in Griffin, Georgia, to Rev. Fred and Carolyne Cox, Freddie lived a life full of music, faith, and love for her family.

Her father, Rev. Fred Cox, had prayed earnestly for a pianist to serve in his church, and God answered that prayer by blessing Freddie with an amazing talent for the piano. She started playing in her dad’s church at just six years old. Over the years, she has played in many churches, as well as for funerals, weddings, and other events, bringing joy and touching so many people with her music. She was a dedicated member of Goldsboro Worship Center, where her faith shone brightly. Freddie was a loving mom to her daughters, Libby Killette Shambeau and Christie Killette Taylor (and husband Wayne), and her son, Jonathan Killette. She held dear to her heart, her brother Steve and sister-in-law Celia Cox as they were a constant source of love, support and prayers throughout the years. She adored her four grandchildren—Ashton Shambeau, Aaron Shambeau (and wife Lindsey), William and Wesley Killette—and her great-grandchildren, Liam and Luke Shambeau.

She is preceded in death by her parents Rev. Fred and Carolyne Cox and beloved sister Beth Tapia. Freddie will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her. A remembrance and Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Goldsboro Worship Center. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Goldsboro Worship Center.
