Kenneth Mather Hathaway Jr., 80, of Goldsboro, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 1, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and pastor, Mr. Hathaway’s legacy of service to God, his family, and his country will continue to inspire all who knew him. Born in New London, Connecticut, on January 1, 1945, he was the son of the late Kenneth Mather Hathaway and Dorothy Eva Worthington Hathaway.
Kenneth was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, and his service to his country was a reflection of his commitment to duty, honor, and sacrifice. He later found his true calling as the pastor of Pathway to Paradise Church, where he faithfully ministered to his congregation with love, wisdom, and compassion.
In addition to his pastoral duties, Kenneth was a loving husband to Janice Artis Hathaway. Together, they shared many years of love and devotion. He was the proud father to his children including two sons, Dontavious Holland (Toya) of Clayton and Travis Holland of Goldsboro; a stepfather to James “Jimmy” Bassinet (Lisa); father to his daughter, Katrina Anderson (Erthel) of Dudley, and his stepdaughter, Alinda Covey of Connecticut. He is also survived by three brothers, Rick Hathaway (Deborah), Donald Hathaway (Alice), and Keith Hathaway (Beth); three sisters, Joyce Shephard (Adrian), Ruth Decosta, and Dorothy Barnes; sister-in-law, Sharon Hathaway; along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought him great joy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Hathaway.
The family will receive friends during a visitation from 12:00 until 12:45 p.m. on Friday, December 5, 2025, at Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home. The committal service, with military honors, will take place at Wayne Memorial Park North in Goldsboro.
Kenneth’s life was a testament to his unwavering faith, his love for his family, and his service to others. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
