NCDHHS Announces Expansion of NCServes Hours, Launches AskMeNC Initiative
RALEIGH, N.C. — The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) is expanding access to care and support for veterans and their families through two major initiatives — extended hours for NCServes and the launch of AskMeNC, a new digital hub connecting veterans to essential services statewide.
These efforts aim to ensure North Carolina’s more than 600,000 veterans have timely access to mental health care, housing, employment, and peer support.
“North Carolina’s veterans have given of themselves selflessly in service to our country,” said Governor Josh Stein. “I applaud these initiatives, which will better connect veterans to health care, peer support, and more.”
Beginning Veterans Day, Nov. 11, the NCServes call line and coordination center—managed by Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry’s (ABCCM) Veterans Services of the Carolinas and Vaya Health—will offer extended evening and weekend hours to meet veterans where they are and reduce barriers to care.
Since its launch in 2014, NCServes has delivered over 150,000 services to nearly 70,000 veteran households, making it the first statewide coordinated care system in the nation for veterans and their families.
The new AskMeNC platform complements this system by offering a single online entry point for veterans and their families to access services such as health care, housing, education, and employment. It leverages NCServes’ coordination system to connect users to trusted, community-based providers across North Carolina.
“By better aligning mental health, primary care, housing, and employment supports, we’re building a stronger, more compassionate network of care,” said NCDHHS Secretary Dev Sangvai.
Veterans, service members, and their families can call 855-962-8387 or visit www.ncserves.org to connect with care coordination teams.
If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health, call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Specialized resources are available for veterans.
