ADLA to Host Thanksgiving Turkey & Ham Giveaway for Families in Need

The ADLA Community Opportunity Center is once again giving back to the community this Thanksgiving season with its annual Turkey & Ham Giveaway, set for Tuesday, November 18, starting at 11 a.m. at 612 S. Breazeale Avenue in Mount Olive.

The event, held in partnership with the ADLA Food Pantry, will provide free turkeys, hams, and brand-new coats to families in need on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Attendees will also enjoy a hot meal and have the opportunity to learn about ADLA’s ongoing training and education programs.

After a devastating kitchen fire temporarily closed the facility, the ADLA Community Opportunity Center reopened in July 2025 stronger than ever. The renovated space now serves as a modern hub for community growth, offering diabetes awareness workshops, digital literacy classes, forklift and culinary arts training, and ESL courses designed to help families build long-term stability.

“With the ongoing federal government shutdown creating uncertainty for families, we want to make sure no one goes without food or warmth this Thanksgiving,” said Danny King, Executive Director of ADLA, Inc. “This giveaway is our way of responding locally when government assistance falters.”

Project Director Imari Anyali added, “At ADLA, we believe in showing up for our community—especially when times are hard. Compassion in action—that’s what ADLA is all about.”

The event comes at a critical time, as the federal SNAP food assistance program faces interruptions due to the government shutdown, leaving many households struggling to meet basic needs.
