Goldsboro, N.C. — One person is dead and a firefighter injured following a late-night house fire in Goldsboro on Saturday, November 8.
The Goldsboro Fire Department was dispatched at 11:56 p.m. to a reported structure fire at 309 N. James Street. The first unit arrived just after midnight to find heavy fire showing from the home.
Fire officials say Engines 1, 3, 4, Tower 1, and the Battalion Chief initially responded with 14 personnel, later joined by Engines 2 and 5 with six additional firefighters for manpower support. Three Command Chiefs also responded to the scene.
Crews made an aggressive interior attack and discovered one victim inside who had succumbed to injuries sustained in the fire. A Goldsboro firefighter also suffered minor injuries and was transported to UNC Health Wayne, where they were treated and released.
The Elroy and Mar-Mac Volunteer Fire Departments assisted by covering calls within the city during the response.
Fire Department personnel remained on scene overnight as the North Carolina Office of the State Fire Marshal continues to investigate the cause of the fire.
