30-Year-Old Suspect Charged Following Child Abuse Investigation
GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A 30-year-old Goldsboro man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the death of a 5-year-old boy who succumbed to injuries sustained in an alleged child abuse incident earlier this month.
Initial Response and Investigation
The Goldsboro Police Department responded to UNC Health Wayne on October 16, 2025, at approximately 10:30 a.m. following a report of a possible child abuse incident involving a 5-year-old male victim. The child was subsequently transferred to ECU Health in Greenville for specialized medical treatment.
The Criminal Investigations Division of the Goldsboro Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Despite medical intervention, authorities were later notified that the young victim had died as a result of the injuries he sustained.
Warrant and Arrest
Following an eight-day investigation, a warrant was secured on October 24 for Kenneth Ray Robinson Jr., charging him with an open count of murder. Robinson, a 30-year-old Goldsboro resident, was taken into custody three days later without incident.
The arrest occurred on October 27 on Wayne Memorial Drive, with members of the Goldsboro Police Department Criminal Investigations Division and B shift patrol officers executing the warrant. Robinson was served with his outstanding warrant and is currently confined to the Wayne County Jail, where he is being held without bond.
Case Details
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the child’s death. An open count of murder allows prosecutors flexibility in pursuing charges based on the evidence gathered during the investigation.
