EPA Compliance Prompts Mailings to More Than 8,000 Households
GOLDSBORO, N.C. — The City of Goldsboro will send annual notices to residents this week regarding the material composition of their water service lines, fulfilling requirements set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
No Lead Found in City’s Water System
Following a comprehensive inventory conducted last year by the City’s Engineering Department, officials confirmed that no lead service lines were detected within Goldsboro’s water system. The extensive survey examined water service lines throughout the municipality to identify any pipes containing the potentially hazardous material.
8,000+ Households to Receive Informational Letters
Beginning Friday, October 31, the City will mail notifications to more than 8,000 households. The letters will be sent to two categories of residents:
- Those with service lines made of galvanized material
- Those whose service line material composition remains unknown
City officials emphasized that these notices are purely informational and not a cause for alarm.
Future Replacement Work Planned
While service lines containing galvanized material will eventually require replacement, the EPA has not yet established a mandatory timeline for completing this work. Additionally, the City will need to identify the material composition of service lines currently listed as unknown.
