GOLDSBORO, N.C. – Wayne Preparatory Academy is preparing to write a new chapter in its athletic history as the school hosts its first-ever home football game this Friday, October 17th at 4:00 p.m.
The historic matchup will take place at the Boys and Girls Club of Goldsboro, located at 1401 Royall Ave, thanks to a partnership with the organization for graciously opening the facility to host this milestone event.
The public charter school’s launch of its inaugural football program represents more than just another addition to its athletics department—it’s a testament to the power of community collaboration and student-driven initiative. Built from the ground up, the eight-man team came together through a combination of student enthusiasm, local sponsorship, and an unexpected boost of support from an NFL franchise nearly 1,200 miles away.
In a remarkable show of support, the Minnesota Vikings have joined a group of local businesses in backing the fledgling program. Alongside the NFL team, sponsors Jackson and Sons, Goldsboro Physical Therapy and Wellness, and TLP Sports have invested in making this football dream a reality for Wayne Prep student-athletes.
The community is invited to attend Friday’s game and be part of this historic moment as Wayne Preparatory Academy takes the field for its first home contest. With local support and major league backing, the team is ready to prove that big dreams can take root anywhere—even in a first-year, eight-man football program.
