Rita Sue Combs, 63, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at Wayne UNC Healthcare in Goldsboro after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on September 13, 1962 in Wayne County, she was daughter to the late James Ratliff and Helen Norman Ratliff.
Rita devoted her life to her family and to creating a home filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. She found her greatest joy in being surrounded by those she loved. She especially treasured time spent with her grandchildren, making every moment special whether it was sharing stories, playing games, or simply enjoying their company. Family gatherings were her happiest times, and she leaves behind countless memories that will continue to bring comfort and smiles to those she loved.
Rita also had a deep love for the simple joys in life. She found peace and happiness at the beach, where the sound of the waves brought her comfort. She enjoyed painting rocks, often turning them into small works of art that reflected her creativity and joy for life. These passions, along with her kindness and warmth, will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. Those who knew Rita will remember her as a woman of strength, kindness, and unwavering devotion. She was a source of encouragement and love, always ready with a warm smile and gentle words.
Rita is survived by her daughter, Brittney Seaman and husband, Garrison; her sons, Richard Combs and James “JP” Combs; her grandchildren, Weston and Callie Seaman; her sisters, Patricia Worley and Norma Randall, as well as many nieces and nephews that she cherished dearly.
In addition to her parents, Rita was preceded in death by her sister, JoAnn Logan and her brothers, Jimmy and Bobby Ratliff. Rita was also preceded in death by her step father, Warren Johnson, who was an important figure in her life.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Monday October 6th, 2025 from 6:00p.m. until 7:00p.m. at The First Church in Goldsboro. A service to honor Rita’s life will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary.
