SMITHFIELD, N.C. — The Johnston County Public Health Department, in partnership with the Opioid Task Force, will host a free community NARCAN training session designed to equip residents with life-saving skills to respond to opioid overdoses.
The training will take place on Friday, October 10, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Johnston County Health Department, located at 517 North Brightleaf Boulevard in Smithfield.
NARCAN, also known as naloxone, is an FDA-approved nasal spray that can rapidly reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. The medication has become an essential tool in communities nationwide as they work to address the ongoing opioid crisis.
During the two-hour session, participants will learn how to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose and how to properly administer NARCAN. Health officials emphasize that the training is straightforward and accessible to individuals with no medical background.
Organizers stress that the training is designed to be straightforward and accessible, empowering community members to make a meaningful impact in emergency situations.
The training session is free and open to all community members. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and receive hands-on instruction from healthcare professionals.
