Local Students Showcase Skills as Fair Announces Monday’s Contest Winners

WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. – The Wayne Regional Agricultural Fair announced its daily competition winners for Monday, September 29, 2025, with Southern Wayne High School students claiming all three top spots in the vocational carpentry competition.

Austin Spell took first place honors in the carpentry contest, demonstrating exceptional craftsmanship and technical skill. Fellow Southern Wayne students Jose Tamayo and Juan Sanchez followed closely behind, earning second and third place respectively. The sweep highlights the strength of the vocational training program at Southern Wayne High School.

Young Builders Excel in Lego Challenge

The fair’s popular Lego On the Spot Contest also crowned winners across two age divisions, showcasing creativity and engineering prowess among the region’s youngest competitors.

In the ages 5-8 category, Nassor Smallwood claimed first place, with Benjamin Bullard securing second and Tessa Sanderson earning third place honors.

The ages 9-12 division saw Spate Sanderson take home the top prize, followed by Grayson Grubbs in second place and John Harris in third.

The Wayne Regional Agricultural Fair continues through the week, with additional competitions and exhibitions scheduled daily. The fair serves as a cornerstone community event, celebrating agricultural heritage, vocational skills, and family entertainment in Wayne County.
