GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A 79-year-old man remains in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle Friday evening in Goldsboro, according to local police.

The crash occurred at approximately 8:14 p.m. on September 13, 2025, on West Grantham Street. Officers from the Goldsboro Police Department’s Patrol Division responded to the scene immediately following reports of the vehicle-pedestrian collision.

According to the preliminary investigation, the driver was traveling westbound on West Grantham Street when the pedestrian, identified as William Hardy, 79, was crossing from the eastbound lanes into the vehicle’s path.

Hardy was initially transported to UNC Health Wayne for treatment before being airlifted to ECU Health, where he remains in critical condition.

The driver, identified as Hubert Dawson, 71, of Goldsboro, remained at the scene. Police investigators have determined that impairment was not a factor in the crash.

The Goldsboro Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. No charges have been filed at this time.

West Grantham Street in the area of the crash was temporarily closed while emergency responders attended to the victim and investigators documented the scene.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional details may be released as they become available.
