August 30, 2025, 62, Goldsboro —
Samuel Frederick Korschun, 62, known lovingly to his grandchildren as “GK” (Granddaddy K), passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 30, 2025, while visiting his daughter and family in Florida.
Born with a larger-than-life spirit, Sam had a smile that could light up any room and a laugh you could hear a mile away. He lived life with passion, integrity, and honesty—qualities that defined him and drew people to him. To know Sam was to know someone who never met a stranger. His gift for words, his humor, and his genuine interest in others made him unforgettable.
Sam made his home in Carolina Beach, NC, where he found joy in his dream house surrounded by a wonderful community of friends who became like family. He loved the ocean, whether it was simply being near the water or casting a line to fish. An avid outdoorsman, he also enjoyed hunting and found peace in nature.
Sports were one of Sam’s greatest joys. A diehard Tar Heel through and through, he loved cheering for his teams and rarely missed the chance to watch or attend a game—whether it was golf, baseball, basketball, or football. Social by nature, Sam thrived on being with others, attending events, and sharing in the excitement of the moment.
Above all, nothing brought him more happiness than time spent with his family—especially his beloved grandbabies. Being dad and “GK” were his proudest titles, and his love for them was immeasurable.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 14, 2025 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Sam’s life at 1:00 p.m.in the chapel. Interment will be on the family plot at Willow Dale Cemetery.
Sam is survived by his daughter, Martha Ann Korschun; grandson, Tatum Baker; granddaughter, Zanaya Baker; and his cherished granddogs: Oliver, Mosa, Lambert, Presley, and Chesney. He is also survived by the mother of his daughter, Frankie Korschun Franks; siblings, Blair Korschun, Eva Simmons, Suzanne Hamilton, and Elizabeth Korschun; many nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles; and countless friends whose lives he touched deeply.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martha Moore Korschun, Sanford L. Korschun and Thomas Robins; and his sister, Martha Elizabeth Korschun.
Sam will be remembered for his radiant personality, his laughter, and the love he so freely gave to those around him. His presence will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to a local animal shelter of choice, in honor of Sam’s love for all animals.
Services are entrusted to Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
