Ms. Debbie Kennedy Thompson, 73, of La Grange, North Carolina, transitioned to her home in glory on August 27, 2025, in Burgaw, North Carolina.
Born on November 24, 1951, in Duplin County, North Carolina, Debbie lived a life marked by compassion, dedication, and unwavering faith. She was a devoted wife to the late Kenneth Harold Thompson for over 25 years. Together, they shared a deep love and a spirit of adventure that led them across the country to explore the beauty of America’s National Parks. Their shared joy in traveling and fishing at the coast created cherished memories that remain with those who knew them.

Debbie dedicated over four decades of her life to caring for others as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Lenoir Memorial Hospital. Her attentiveness and compassion toward her patients earned her widespread admiration and culminated in an Excellence Award from the hospital in 2004. Her commitment to nursing was not just a profession but a calling—one she fulfilled with grace and humility for 41 years.
Beyond her professional life, Debbie found joy in simple pleasures: antique shopping, baking specialty cakes, cooking meals for loved ones, and spending time with family and friends. She had a great sense of humor that could light up any room and treated everyone she met like family. Her warmth and generosity left lasting impressions on all who crossed her path.

A woman of faith, Debbie served her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ faithfully throughout her life. For over 32 years, she was a devoted member of Southwest P.F.W.B. Church in Kinston, NC. Her church community held a special place in her heart, and she gave selflessly of her time and energy to serve wherever needed. Whether preparing meals or offering support to fellow members, Debbie’s presence was a blessing to many.
Debbie is survived by her son, Kenneth Thompson Jr., and his wife Tania Thompson; her sister, Melba Williams; grandchildren Christopher Thompson and Lauren Thompson; uncle Ressie Howard; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind dear friends Cathy Whitley, Fran Ward, Joan Howard, and Anell Miller—each of whom held a special place in her heart.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, husband Kenneth Harold Thompson; father Adam Kennedy; mother Lizzie Kennedy; and brother Raywood Kennedy.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Southwest P.F.W.B. Church in Kinston, NC—a place that brought Debbie immense joy and where she gave so much of herself.
