Local Community Action Agency Seeks Volunteers for Meals on Wheels Program

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — WAGES, a Community Action Agency, is actively recruiting volunteers to help deliver nutritious meals to older adults across Wayne County through their Home Delivered Meals program.

The organization needs volunteers to assist with meal delivery Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with flexible scheduling available to accommodate volunteers’ availability. The program serves multiple routes throughout the region, including daily deliveries in Goldsboro, Monday routes in Fremont, and Tuesday routes in Mt. Olive.

The volunteer opportunity requires minimal time commitment, with organizers emphasizing that even volunteering one day per week can make a significant difference in the lives of homebound older adults. Training is described as simple, and delivery routes are kept short to make the experience manageable for volunteers.

Beyond providing nutrition, the program serves as an important wellness check system for elderly residents who may have limited social contact. Volunteers often serve as the primary daily interaction for meal recipients, making the human connection aspect as valuable as the food delivery itself.

The Home Delivered Meals program aims to improve the lives of older adults by ensuring they receive nutritious lunch meals while maintaining their independence in their own homes. This service is particularly crucial for seniors who may have mobility limitations, transportation challenges, or other barriers that make grocery shopping and meal preparation difficult.

Interested volunteers can sign up or learn more about the program by calling 919-734-1178, extension 281. Additional information is available at wagesnc.org.

WAGES is located at 601 Royall Avenue in Goldsboro and continues to serve as a vital community resource addressing food insecurity and social isolation among the area’s most vulnerable residents.

The organization emphasizes that the program helps keep the community both fed and connected through the combined efforts of dedicated volunteers.
