Annual Taste of Wayne Event Brings Community Together in Downtown Goldsboro

The Wayne County Chamber of Commerce Takes Over Event Organization

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — The annual Taste of Wayne event took place in downtown Goldsboro at the Hub, marking a significant transition in event leadership. This year, The Wayne County Chamber of Commerce assumed responsibility for organizing the popular community gathering, taking over from The United Way of Wayne County which had managed the event for several years.

The change in leadership represents a collaborative effort between local organizations, with both the Chamber of Commerce and United Way working together to ensure the event’s continued success.

Food Vendors and Community Participation

The event featured a diverse array of food vendors and local businesses, creating a vibrant atmosphere for attendees. Notable participants included:

  • Bill’s Grill, which received particular praise for their cube steak
  • Zaxby’s, featuring chicken tacos with avocado ranch and chipotle ranch options
  • Carl & ‘Chelle’s Grill Room
  • Multiple food trucks

Local radio station 92.7 Jams provided live coverage throughout the event, with DJ K.T. broadcasting from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM.

Community Focus and Volunteer Engagement

Event organizers emphasized the community aspect of Taste of Wayne, highlighting opportunities for residents to connect with neighbors, meet new people, and enjoy downtown Goldsboro’s social district. The event attracted numerous volunteers, including first-time participants who were drawn to the community-building aspects of the gathering.

Volunteers and organizers noted that while food remains a major draw, the social connections and community engagement represent the heart of the event’s appeal.

Connection to NC Freedom Fest

The Taste of Wayne serves as the official kickoff event for the NC Freedom Fest, positioning it as an important anchor in the region’s festival calendar. This connection helps establish the event as part of a larger celebration of community and regional culture.

Future Plans and Growth

The Wayne County Chamber of Commerce representatives expressed enthusiasm about continuing the event in future years, with plans to incorporate community feedback and expand the event’s scope. New leadership indicated intentions to make the gathering bigger and better, building on the foundation established during their first year of organization.

The successful transition demonstrates the strength of local partnerships and the community’s commitment to maintaining beloved traditions while allowing for growth and innovation.

The overall winner of the Taste of Wayne was Carl & ‘Chelle’s Grill Room, who has claimed the award in the picture.
