WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. — A 57-year-old Wayne County man has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of child sex offenses following an investigation that uncovered alleged abuse spanning more than two decades.
Mark Alan Kuhns was taken into custody without incident at his residence by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit. He faces three counts of first-degree sex offense with a child and seven counts of indecent liberties with a minor.
The investigation began on June 12, 2025, when the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office received a report regarding indecent liberties with a minor. As investigators delved deeper into the case, they discovered evidence suggesting Kuhns had allegedly sexually abused multiple children over a period exceeding 20 years.
After reviewing the evidence, the Wayne County District Attorney’s Office determined there was sufficient probable cause to proceed with the initial charges. Officials indicated that additional charges may follow as the investigation continues.
Kuhns was processed and booked into the Wayne County Detention Center. Following his first court appearance, he was assigned a bond of $2.65 million.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit is continuing to investigate the case. Anyone with information related to this investigation is encouraged to contact local authorities.
