Wayne County Government Offices and Services to Close for Labor Day Holiday

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Wayne County residents should plan ahead as most government offices and county services will be closed Monday, September 1, in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

County government offices will suspend operations for the day, with normal business hours resuming Tuesday, September 2. The closure affects administrative services and departments housed in county buildings.

Several key county services will also observe the holiday closure. All Wayne County Public Library branches will be closed Monday, preventing access to books, computers, and other library resources. The Peggy M. Seegars Senior Center will similarly suspend programming and services for the day.

Waste management services will be impacted as well, with both the Wayne County landfill and convenience centers closing Monday. Residents are advised to plan their disposal needs accordingly, as these facilities will not reopen until Tuesday morning.

The Wayne County Animal Shelter will extend its closure beyond the typical holiday schedule, remaining closed both Saturday, August 30, and Monday, September 1. The shelter’s visiting hours will resume Tuesday, September 2.

All affected facilities and services are scheduled to return to their regular operating hours on Tuesday, September 2. Residents with urgent needs during the closure period are encouraged to plan ahead or seek alternative arrangements.

Labor Day, observed annually on the first Monday in September, honors the contributions and achievements of American workers. The federal holiday typically results in the closure of government offices, schools, and many businesses across the country.

For questions about specific services or emergency needs during the holiday closure, residents may contact Wayne County government offices before the close of business Friday, August 29.
