Shelby Jean Caison Mozingo, 89, passed away on August 21, 2025 at Willow Creek Nursing Center surrounded by her family.  Born in Wayne County on January 27, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Maybelle Caison.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dexton Mozingo; and siblings Virginia Ash, Wyatt Caison, Edwin Caison, Retha Raynor, Edie Scott, Frank Caison, Jr., and Delorise Cole.

Shelby was a 1953 graduate of New Hope High School where she was active in the Glee Club, FHA Club, Drama Club, and Secretary & Treasurer of her class.  She began her secretarial career with Johnson-Sherman Company and moved to Comer Equipment Company in the mid-1970s.  Shelby always enjoyed styling hair and in 1984 she enrolled in evening classes at Lenoir Community College School of Cosmetology.  After obtaining her cosmetology license she opened the “beauty shop” behind her house where she stayed busy for many years.  After retirement she still enjoyed working part-time at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home greeting and comforting the families they served.  Shelby devoted her life to God and family, and the job she loved the most was being a mother and grandmother.

As a faithful member of Tabernacle / Liberty Pentecostal Holiness Church in Goldsboro, Shelby was active in all aspects of church service including Woman’s Auxiliary, Secretary & Treasurer, Choir, and Sunday School.

Shelby is survived by her sons, Drue Mozingo (Sonya), Stan Mozingo and Angie Mozingo; grandchildren Kayla Pounds (Jonathan), Seth Mozingo, Tanner Mozingo; great-grandchildren Ava Pounds and Madelyn Pounds; and her nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

A service to celebrate the life of Shelby Mozingo will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with the Rev. Berry House presiding.  Interment will immediately follow in Wayne Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 from 7:00 – 9:00 PM at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home in Goldsboro, NC.

The Mozingo family would like to express sincere gratitude to family, friends and church members who have visited Shelby at Willow Creek during her declining health.  We are especially grateful for the compassionate care provided by Amy Townsend, Bernice Carter, and the Willow Creek Nursing Center staff, along with Miranda Davis and Donna Sutherland with Cardinal Hospice Care.  A special thanks to Anne Hopkins for being a faithful, loving friend to our mother.  May the goodness of God be upon you all.
