Marilyn Pyles Guy

August 24, 2025, 92, Goldsboro —

Marilyn Pyles Guy, 92, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, August 24, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.

Marilyn was born in Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania, on September 30, 1932, to the late Ivan and Eva Pyles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Richard Dwight Pontious, Brad Lee Pontious, and Kennie Mac Pontious; and her grandchild, Casey Fuller.

Marilyn lived a remarkable and hardworking life. She retired from Goldsboro Milling Company but also made history as one of the first women in the United States to register as a long-haul truck driver. Earlier in her career, she worked as a waitress and hostess at Roy Rogers Apple Valley Inn where her warm spirit and dedication shone brightly.

She was a member of the Grantham Grange and the Order of the Eastern Star, and she worshipped with the congregation at Selah Christian Church. Family was at the very center of Marilyn’s heart—she treasured every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and her love for them was steadfast and unconditional.

Marilyn was never one to sit idle, always keeping her hands and heart busy. She found great joy in crocheting, needlework, and a variety of crafts, creating beautiful pieces that reflected both her creativity and her love for others.

A service to celebrate Marilyn’s life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 in the sanctuary of Selah Christian Church with Pastor Patrick Muston officiating.  The family will greet friends following the service in the fellowship hall.

Marilyn is survived by her son, Garrett Evan Pontious and wife, Crystal; daughter, Debra Lynn Craig; daughter-in-law, Joy Pontious; eleven grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sister, Shelby Long; and brothers, John Pyles and Dennis Pyles.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her memory to Selah Christian Church, 1332 Selah Church Road, Four Oaks, NC 27524.

Services are entrusted to Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
