Lawton Wayne Brock, age 69, resident of the Manley’s Grove area near Mount Olive, passed away unexpectedly in the wee hours of the morning on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at his home.
Wayne was raised in Mount Olive and graduated from Southern Wayne Senior High School with the class of 1973. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving honorably for two enlistments. His working career which followed took him to several places, notably to include AVX. He was employed most recently with the Moses King family at Mount Olive Piggly Wiggly in the meat department.
Wayne was a firm believer in the Lord, and worshipped at Manley’s Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church with his wife and her family. He also kept an allegiance to the church he grew up attending, Mount Olive First Pentecostal Holiness, and attended there often as well.
Mr. Brock leaves behind his wife, Gail Odom Brock; children, Kelly Brock Albright and husband, Derek, of New Philadelphia, Ohio, Lawton Wayne Brock II and wife, Kodi, of Dover, Ohio, Jeremy Whitfield and wife, Shannon, and Heather King and husband, Jeremy, all of the Mount Olive area; grandchildren, Hunter Albright, Brock Albright, Rebekah Albright, Lawton Brock “L. J.” Brock III, Journee Brock, Chance King, Zackery King, Hunter Whitfield, and Brooke Davis and husband, Myles; a great-granddaughter, AnnaBryan Davis; a sister, Elaine Brock Cross of Goldsboro; and a brother, Jimmy Brock of Vass. He is also survived by Connie Ross Brock (and Phyllis McClaine) of Dover, Ohio, the mother of Kelly and Lawton; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lasky and Wilma Odom, of Mount Olive, and all of their associated families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James L. Brock and Louberta Hargrove Brock; a sister, Agnes Brock Williams; and brother, Elrie Brock.
Visitation with the family of Wayne Brock will be Sunday, August 10, at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive, beginning at 2 p.m. with funeral services to follow at 3 p.m. in the Tyndall Chapel. Officiating will be Pastor Donald Massey. Burial will follow the service in Mount Olive’s Maplewood Cemetery. Flowers are welcome, or memorial gifts may be made to any local organization for the care and benefit of veterans.
