James “Jim” Ernest Hurlburt, 60, passed away on Thursday August 7th, 2025. Born on November 21, 1964 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, he was son to the late George Hurlburt and Joanna Shobe Hurlburt.

Anyone who met Jim never forgot his bright blue eyes and the spur of the moment conversation he could strike up with anyone. He worked in the metal recycling industry for most of his life and showed a great passion for his work and his customers. He truly embraced hard work and worked diligently to be one of the most knowledgeable in his industry. Jim had a very big helping heart and never minded being the first person to help a family member, friend or neighbor in need. He loved his children and his family very much. He had an immense love for the game of basketball, specifically Carolina Tar Heels basketball. He will be greatly missed and remembered by his family and friends.

Jim is survived by his two children, Mitch Hurlburt and Stephanie Hurlburt of Charlotte, North Carolina; his sisters, Sue Best and husband Johnny, Lori Boykin and husband Mark; and his nephew, Jimmy Zills and wife Ashley and their children all of Goldsboro, North Carolina.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two nephews, Coe Smith and Austin Smith.

Funeral services will be held this Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at Seymour Funeral Home at 6 pm with Pastor Bill Rose presiding. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 5 pm until 6 pm.
