Charles Edward Walston

 August 8, 2025, 83, Goldsboro —

Charles Edward Walston, 83, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2025, at Navion of Goldsboro. Born and raised in Greene County, Charles spent his entire life on the family farm where he was lovingly brought up by his parents, Samuel Stephen Walston and Eva Vaughn Walston. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Peggy Ham Walston; brothers, James “Bud” Walston and Wayne Walston; and sisters, Grace Daughtry, Doris Oakes, and Evelyn Ross.

A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Charles was known for his unwavering work ethic and remarkable skill in building or repairing just about anything. After 44 years of dedicated service, he retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation. One of his proudest accomplishments was helping to construct the home where he and Peggy built a lifetime of memories.

Faith was an important part of Charles’ life, and he attended Fort Run Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church throughout his years. In his younger days, he had a passion for fast cars and could often be found cruising William Street.

A loyal UNC Tar Heels fan, Charles’ devotion to his team was so well known that friends joked his blood ran Carolina blue. A Carolina win brought him as much joy as a Duke loss. He also enjoyed listening to vinyl records from the 1950s and 1960s, relaxing at the beach, and taking family trips—especially the many vacations to Myrtle Beach that his loved ones will always cherish.

Above all, Charles loved his family. To them, he will forever be remembered as the best husband, Daddy, Granddaddy, and brother. The time spent together was, to him, the greatest blessing of all.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 12:00–1:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home in Goldsboro, followed by a service celebrating Charles’ life at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel, with Rev. Wesley Newcomb officiating. Interment will follow at Snow Hill Cemetery.

Charles is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Maggie and Jonathan Smith; granddaughters, Lennon Rose Smith and Charlotte Jean Smith; and several beloved nieces and nephews. He is also survived by special family members Sharon Carter and Venice and Lindsey Brown, along with their children, Dustin, Melanie, and Mason.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Navion of Goldsboro for their care in recent months and to Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate support.
