James Glenn Parish Jr., passed away Friday, August 8, 2025 at Brookdale Country Day Road at the age of 90.

Informal Celebration of Life will be held in Charleston, South Carolina at a later date.

James was born in Augusta, Georgia on July 10, 1935 to the late James Glenn Parish, Sr. and Mary Catherine McAlhaney Parish. He was raised in Charleston, SC  and soon after graduation joined the Marines before joining the United States Air Force.  He spent 25 years traveling the world with his family.  He later retired for a second time from employment with the city of Charleston before moving back to Goldsboro in 2001.  James was a member of Generation Church, he was faithful in his faith with his church until his health declined.

James never met a stranger and was always ready to share a story or a joke.  He was a loyal spouse, father, son, sibling and friend to many.  He will be sorely missed.

James was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years. Annette Elizabeth Parish; his oldest son, James Glenn Parish III; his sister, June Parish Rabon; his daughter-in-law, Sharon Parish and a great-granddaughter, Willa Mae McLamb.

He is survived by his sons, David Wayne Parish (Tammy) of Goldsboro and Daniel Kevin Parish (Lynn) of Wilmington; his daughter, Linda Ann Howell-Stewart (Richard) of Ashville; his bonus daughters, Morgan Kelly (James) of Aiken, South Carolina and Christian Dewitt (Kevin) of Charleston, South Carolina; two brothers, Harry Parish (Frida) of Tennessee and Charlie Parish (Cheryl) of Charleston, South Carolina; his sister, Annie Thompson of Charleston, South Carolina; his grandchildren, Evan Howell (Becca), Christopher Howell, Adam Parish (Mary) and Jessica McLamb (Devin) and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff who cared for him at Brookdale as well as the compassionate care provided by Gentiva Hospice.
