July 24, 2025, 72, Goldsboro —
Jimmy Dail, 72, departed this life on Thursday, July 24, 2025. Jimmy was born in Lenoir County to Dorothy Rubelle Jones Dail and the late James Hardy Dail on November 13, 1952. In addition to his father, Jimmy was preceded in death by four nieces and nephews.
From a young age, Jimmy learned the value of a hard day’s work. He lived his life as a self-employed roofer with pride in his work and unmatched skill.
Through his care for others, you could really see Jimmy’s kind heart. He’d gladly offer a helping hand or give his last dollar if it meant helping someone achieve their goals or fulfill their needs, even if it meant going without himself.
Deeply rooted in family, Jimmy’s highlight of the year was vacation time with his daughter, Ashley, and her family. Whether they were on a cruise ship or wandering through Disney World, he soaked up every minute of those adventures, counting down the days to the next one as soon as the last one ended.
Easy going and easy to talk to, Jimmy had a knack for striking up conversation with anyone, no matter the location. If you ran into Jimmy, a quick stop at the store might turn into a 30-minute visit. He lived on “Jimmy Time,” a pace all his own, where clocks didn’t matter as much as enjoying the present opportunity.
Jimmy’s greatest joy was being a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a great father and flawless grandfather. And when it came to his grandchildren, Jimmy’s love knew no bounds. He was rarely seen without one of them nearby, and his grandson Wyatt, in particular, was affectionately known as his shadow.
A service to celebrate Jimmy’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at Trinity Free Will Baptist Church, La Grange.
In addition to his mother, Jimmy is survived by his daughters, Hope Dail, Crystal Dail, Jennifer Hinson (Patrick), and Ashley Hildebrand (Jonathan); his beloved grandchildren: Lauren Aguilar, Courtney Barron, Lynn Petticoffer, Carmen Griffin, Angela Blackwell, Donna Blackwell, Parker Sullivan, Lonnie Sullivan, Jacob Hildebrand, Andrew Hinson, Austin Hildebrand, Hunter Hinson, Wyatt Hildebrand, and Trinity Smith; nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Linwood Dail, Doris Thigpen, and Virginia Harmon; and six nieces and nephews. Jimmy also shared a close bond with his daughter by heart, Pam Ladd, who was family in every way that mattered.
