Pikeville Police Arrest Two Suspects in Sexual Assault Investigation

PIKEVILLE, NC – The Pikeville Police Department has arrested two individuals in connection with a sexual assault case that occurred on July 1, 2025, officials announced on Friday.

Investigation Leads to Arrests

On July 1, 2025, officers with the Pikeville Police Department were dispatched in reference to a sexual assault that had occurred. During the investigation, it was determined that an additional physical assault had occurred to the victim by another suspect.

Following a thorough investigation by department personnel, officers developed and processed critical evidence that led to the identification and apprehension of the suspects. A search warrant was applied for and executed at residency, where arrest warrants were secured for two individuals for their involvement in the case.

Suspects Arrested and Charged

Christopher Adam Ivery of Pikeville, NC, was arrested and charged with:

  • Second Degree Forcible Rape (Felony)
  • Breaking & Entering (Felony)
  • False Imprisonment (Felony)

Jahiara Duelen Messick of Goldsboro, NC, was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault with Deadly Weapon
  • Cruelty to Animals

Both subjects were arrested and transported to the Wayne County Magistrate’s Office. Messick was placed under a $5,000 secured bond, while Ivery was given no bond.

Evidence indicates that the victim in this case, as well as the victim’s dog, sustained injuries during the attacks.
