Carolina Athletic Park, Goldsboro——-
Coach Adam Pate knew down 2 games to 1 with a banged up pitching rotation, he had to give the ball to closer Ayden West. And West was as good as advertised, striking out 14 of 19 batters faced through 6, allowing just 1 hit and walking none. West had the Pitt batters waving at his slider all night long.
That performance allowed Post 11 to go to work at the plate.
Wayne County would scratch first in the second off starter Chase White when Carter Adams led off with a walk and stole second. Thad Parker singled through the right side and took second on an error on the relay back to the infield. A Joseph Buckley ground out to shortstop made it 1-0 Wayne County after 2.
Meanwhile West had the Yankees Strikeout Whistle burning hot with K after K after K.
Post 11 gave West some breathing room in the third when Cameron Aycock led off with his second hit and swiped his third bag of the night. Wyatt Lassiter singled to shallow left but turned his hit into a hustle double on the slow relay back in putting runners on second and third. Lawson Tyndall laced a ball in front of the diving centerfielder that got away for a double to make it 3-0 Wayne County. A Charlie Scott sac bunt moved Tyndall to third. Then Carter Adams drove a 1-1 fastball over the fence in left center to make it 5-0 Good Guys after 3.
White would settle down as Wayne County went in order in the fourth and fifth innings.
Post 11 loaded the bases off White in the sixth on a Parker single and walks to Buckley and Baines Raynor. Pitt reliever Owen Hardee would inherit the bases loaded. A bad throw back to Hardee from the catcher allowed Parker to scamper home to make it 6-0. Lassiter then grounded out to shortstop to give Post 11 their final run of the night.
Lassiter took over on the mound in the seventh and only allowed a double to Joyner Haddock who would score later on a wild pitch.
Wayne County will travel to Winterville tonight for Game 5 to be played at South Central High School.
The winner gets Wilson or Roanoke Rapids in the Area 1 Finals. Wilson currently leads the series 2-1.
