WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. — A 20-year-old man was arrested and charged with drug possession and resisting arrest following a traffic stop on July 1st.
Traffic Violation Leads to Investigation
Officers initiated a traffic stop at approximately 11:14 p.m. on a black Chrysler vehicle for failure to maintain lane control. During the course of the investigative stop, officers developed probable cause to conduct a search of the vehicle.
Suspect Resists Arrest
The driver, identified as Elijah Coley, refused to comply when officers instructed him to exit the vehicle. After multiple commands were issued, officers were forced to physically remove Coley from the vehicle. The suspect continued to actively resist arrest during the encounter.
Narcotics Discovered in Vehicle Search
Officers successfully secured Coley and placed him under arrest. The subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of illegal narcotics.
Charges and Bond Information
Coley was transported to the Wayne County Magistrate’s Office where he was processed and received a $2,000 secured bond. He faces the following charges:
- Possession of Schedule VI controlled substance
- Resisting a public officer
