Martha Price Mills, age 84, passed away peacefully at Highland Oaks Nursing Home in Elgin, Illinois on Saturday, June 21, 2025. Born in Edgecombe County on March 9, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Mildred Eason Price and Hugh Allen Price.

A retired teacher with a lifelong love of learning, Martha taught in the Wayne County and Goldsboro City Schools for almost 30 years. She inspired generations of students with her dedication and unwavering belief in the power of books. When she wasn’t reading a historical fiction novel or something by her favorite author Nicholas Sparks, she could be found working in her garden and visiting her family. Martha also loved spending most mornings in her retirement enjoying coffee and chatting with friends at her favorite place — McDonald’s.

She is survived by her daughter Lori Callis and husband Bob; son Bruce Mills and wife Jennifer; and granddaughters Bethany and Jillian. She also leaves behind her sisters Mattie Daughtridge (Johnny) and Marjorie Bunn as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.

Her presence in our lives was a steady comfort, and her absence leaves a gentle ache.

A service to celebrate Martha’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 27, 2025 in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. in the hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
