A Fresh Start: United Way and Elks Lodge Help Veterans Feel at Home

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — United Way of Wayne County has joined forces with the Goldsboro Elks Lodge to provide essential support for local veterans. Through this new partnership, the organizations will distribute Welcome Home Kits as part of United Way’s Recovery Voucher Program, helping veterans transition into stable housing.

Kits Provide Essential Household Items

The Welcome Home Kits are designed to supply veterans with basic household necessities, including bedding, kitchenware, hygiene products, and other essential items. These kits aim to create a more stable and comfortable living environment for veterans as they begin new chapters in their lives.

Thanks to the generous support of the Goldsboro Elks Lodge, these kits are fully funded and assembled to meet the practical needs of those who have served in the military.

A Partnership Rooted in Gratitude and Service

“We are deeply grateful to the Goldsboro Elks Lodge for their commitment to our veterans,” said Sherry Archibald, Executive Director of United Way of Wayne County. “This partnership allows us to increase our capacity to support those who have served our country by ensuring they have the basic tools to succeed in their transition from homelessness or housing insecurity.”

Expanding the Recovery Voucher Program

United Way’s Recovery Voucher Program was created to help individuals in crisis connect with the resources they need as they rebuild their lives. By adding the Welcome Home Kits to this program, United Way is enhancing its ability to meet the unique needs of veterans in Wayne County.

“This collaboration is a testament to the power of community and the shared responsibility we have to support those who have sacrificed so much,” Archibald added.

Community Support and Involvement Encouraged

The partnership between United Way of Wayne County and the Goldsboro Elks Lodge showcases the impact of community collaboration in supporting veterans and addressing the challenges of housing insecurity.
