Carl Odom passed away peacefully at Helping Hands Assisted Living Center in Goldsboro Friday night, June 20, 2025.
Carl was the son of the late Lorenzo Carl (Shag) Odom and Gracie Eudell Strickland Odom. He had been a long time resident of Calypso, and in recent years, the Mount Olive area.
Carl worked as a painter for many years. He served for 23 years in the North Carolina National Guard.
He was talented at playing the guitar and other instruments. He played with the Smoke House Band. In addition to the guitar playing, he loved to draw and paint, and he especially loved drawing airplanes.
Carl attended the Brock’s Chapel Church before he relocated to Helping Hands.
Preceded in death by his wife, Kathy Hare, a son, Carlton Dean Odom; and his parents, he is survived by his sons, Eddie James Odom and wife, Andrea, of Gastonia, and Micheal Ray Odom and wife, Katie, of Chapel Hill; seven grandchildren, Andrew, Jacob, Elianna, Benjamin, Savannah, Luke, and Lorelai; three sisters, Lillie Robertson and husband, Ralph, Linda Ponce and husband, Bert, and Gladys MacDonald; and many nieces and nephews.
He will be laid to rest in Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive.
Family and friends will celebrate his life at his gravesite on Monday, June 23, at 6 p..m. Grave location is at the corner of Dudley Street and Johnson Street (behind Evans Used Cars on Bell Avenue).
