Wayne R. Nelson

June 17, 2025, 80, Goldsboro —

Rev. Wayne R. Nelson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his residence in Pikeville, North Carolina, on June 17, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was a man of deep faith and dedicated service, who touched the lives of many throughout his ministry.

Rev. Nelson is survived by his devoted wife, Sandra Nelson, and their cherished family. He leaves behind his daughter, Audrey Harrington and her husband, Rodney, of North Carolina, as well as his two sons, Robert Nelson and his wife, Janice, of Florida, and Scott Nelson and his wife, Lisa, of Illinois. He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren – Ava and Arianna Harrington, Brandon Rapier and his wife and sister Kellee Raney, and Kira and Laina Nelson; who brought him great joy and fulfillment. In addition to his immediate family, Rev. Nelson was an only child and is mourned by his two brothers-in-laws Alfred and Gordon Brickler and a host of other relatives, friends, co-workers and church families, who will remember him for his kindness, sense of humor, wisdom, and unwavering spirit. He was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back without asking for anything in return. He was a humble man that thought of others more than himself. He knew no stranger. He believed in God’s love and was destined to share it with everyone he met, in good times or bad. He was loved more than he knew or thought and always strived to do more for everyone. He loved to give hugs and comfort, kindness, and in joy because that’s how he served in God’s grace.

No formal services will be held, as per Rev. Nelson’s wishes. His legacy of love and compassion will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those he touched.
