Joseph “Joe” Irvin Powell, Sr., age 80, passed away on Thursday, June 20th at his residence. Born in Sampson County, he was the son of the late James Robert Powell, Sr. and Madge Sutton Powell and husband of the late Margorie Rose Powell. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Dewey Powell, Sr. Joe was a lifelong farmer, loved his family and his tractors.

A service to celebrate the life of Joe Powell will be held by the graveside on Monday, June 23rd at 10:00am at Wayne Memorial Park with Chaplain  Aaron Brett Bissette officiating.

Joe is survived by his children, Joseph “Jody” Irvin Powell, Jr., Ashly Powell Cottle and Dean Tyler Powell; and his brother, Willie Powell; a sister in law, Janet Powell; his grandchildren, Carly Powell, Christian Powell, Jordan Riggs, Chase Cottle, Maci Lee and Kari Ann Lane; and  special nephews, Dewey Powell, Jr. and Corey Powell.
