Let’s Celebrate: Pride Festival Expands as Community Leaders Share Visions for the Future

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — In an exclusive interview, Dupricia Williams, founder of the non-profit organization Bhangi Gold, shared her experiences and vision for this year’s Pride Festival & Market. Williams, who has been orchestrating the event since 2023 with help from community volunteers, emphasizes her organization’s broader mission to support homeless and less fortunate families.

A Growing Tradition

Williams explained, “I’ve been putting this event together since 2023. Last year, it attracted over 200 attendees, and this year, the numbers are still climbing.” She added that the event has evolved from a smaller gathering in a club to a larger festival held in an open field, reflecting growing community interest.

Community Support and Future Goals

When asked about expanding the event, Williams expressed her desire to see it grow even bigger in the coming years. “I want it to expand because I believe in supporting everyone, regardless of their comfort level. This can help reduce issues like mental health struggles and suicide,” she said.

Organized with the help of volunteers including Ms. Gina, Samantha, Rebecca, and Michaela, Williams highlighted the importance of social media in reaching out to vendors and participants. “We post on social media, invite vendors, and encourage volunteering,” she explained.

First-Time Volunteer Shares Enthusiasm

Another participant, Tabitha Howell, shared her first experience volunteering at the Pride Festival. “This is only my second year attending, but I wanted to help because I believe in what Dupricia is doing,” Howell said. “It’s about creating a welcoming space for everyone to celebrate love and acceptance.”

Hopes for Continued Growth

Howell expressed her enthusiasm for the event’s future, hoping it will continue to expand. “I believe every year it gets bigger and better,” she said. “We even had to move venues this year because it’s growing so much.”

Promoting Acceptance and Community Engagement

When asked how she would encourage others to attend, Howell emphasized the event’s family-friendly atmosphere. “It’s a day filled with love and acceptance—something everyone should experience,” she added, mentioning that the event has been promoted extensively on social media platforms like TikTok.

Looking Ahead

Organizers and volunteers alike are optimistic about the future of the Pride Festival & Market. With plans to expand and reach more community members, this celebration continues to foster a spirit of inclusivity, love, and support.
