Community Rockstar Spotlight: Mayor Highlights Local Safety Leaders
GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Goldsboro Mayor Charles Gaylor joined morning host Jeff Farrow to introduce two local “community rockstars” as part of the NC Community Credit Union’s Community Rockstar Spotlight. Featured guests included Captain Jason Adams of the Goldsboro Police Department and Captain Brandon Sutton of the Goldsboro Fire Department.
Both officers discussed summer safety initiatives and highlighted the importance of proactive community engagement.
Police Department Tips for Summer Safety
Captain Adams emphasized home and vehicle safety, reminding residents to:
- Secure homes, including garage doors—even while home.
- Avoid leaving items unattended in yards.
- Double-check garage remotes to avoid overnight exposure.
Fire Department Offers Fireworks and Pool Safety Reminders
Captain Sutton shared fire department tips, including:
- Staying hydrated in the heat.
- Using legal fireworks and practicing caution.
- Never discarding sparklers or used fireworks in trash cans.
- Attending public displays rather than lighting fireworks at home.
He also promoted “Sprinkler Fun Days”, a weekly family-friendly event happening Fridays from 3 to 4 PM downtown at The Hub. Sponsored in part by World Contracting, the event provides kids a fun way to cool down while promoting water safety.
Special Olympics Jeep Show Set for June 14
The Goldsboro Police Department will hosted the Special Olympics North Carolina Law Enforcement Torch Run Jeep Show & Shine on Saturday, June 14. The event, ran from 10 AM to 1 PM at downtown Goldsboro. Jeep owners and community members alike were invited to come out for a fun showcase that supports local athletes. Raffles, silent auctions, and community spirit were all on the agenda.

Theatre Workshops and Law Enforcement Update
In other local news, Art Execute is launching a free six-week theatre workshop program starting July 7 for students aged 6–18. Meanwhile, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reported the arrest of James Robert Allen, 38, during a checkpoint in northern Wayne County on June 6. Allen faces multiple drug, weapons, and traffic-related charges after heroin, controlled substances, and a firearm were found in his vehicle. He remains in custody under a $302,500 secured bond.
Friday the 13th Fun: Facts, Promotions, and Black Cats
Friday marked the only Friday the 13th of 2025, a fact that sparked conversation on-air about cultural superstitions. A recent poll revealed that 80% of Americans don’t believe the day is unlucky. Men were noted to be more superstitious than women.
To mark the occasion, participating Krispy Kreme locations offered a dozen glazed doughnuts for 13 cents with the purchase of any regular dozen.
