The Management and Staff of Williams & Ashford Funeral Directors humbly announce the earthly departure of Mrs. Bertie Elder Artis, 77, of Goldsboro, NC.
Bertie Elder Artis was born on August 5, 1947, to the late Joe Henry Elder and Inez Royal in Asheville, NC.
After completing her formal education, she was employed by Howells’s Child Care, a position she took pride in as it allowed her to serve those less fortunate.
Later in life, she worked at Roses in Smithfield as a stocker, a job she thoroughly enjoyed. Her coworkers often remarked that even in her 70s, she could outwork her younger teammates. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Henry Elder and Inez Royal; her son, Keith A. Elder; her daughter, Nancy M. Weatherspoon; and a granddaughter, Sahara E. Weatherspoon.
She leaves behind her husband, James Artis, and six children: Ellis Weatherspoon, Jesse Floyd, Mary Elder, Lisa Waters, James Elder, and Rose Artis (the youngest). Additionally, she is remembered by 38 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, and a few great-great-grandchildren.
