Annette Marie Hawley Kennedy, 66, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2025 at Duke University Hospital after a lengthy illness.

No formal services will be held.

Mrs. Kennedy was born in Suffolk, Virginia on May 5, 1959 to the late Willie Allen and Ada Ruth Batten Hawley.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, but her grandchildren held a special place in her heart more than anything.

She is survived by her husband, Jeff Vencil; her sons, Donnie Wayne Barnes and wife, Susanne of Goldsboro and Christopher Brian Barnes and wife, Chandra of California; two brothers, Wayne Hawley and wife, Sheila of Princeton and Glenn Hawley and wife, Bonnie of Goldsboro; two brother-in-laws, Charles Holloman and Delmond Lamm; her sister-in-law, Janice Hawley; her grandchildren, Rachel, Rome, Kylie, Bodie, Colton and Kaleah Barnes.  In addition Mrs. Kennedy is survived by several nieces and nephews and family & close friends who cared for her during her illness.  

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Kennedy was preceded in death by her brother, Donnie Hawley and two sisters, Evelyn Holloman and Sue Lamm.
