Leadership in Transition: Daughtery Appointed to Wayne Community College Board

Goldsboro, N.C. – Wayne County Commissioner Joe Daughtery has been appointed to the Wayne Community College (WCC) Board of Trustees, continuing his long-standing service to the community in a new educational leadership role.

Daughtery was officially sworn in during the Board’s regular May meeting, following his appointment by the Wayne County Board of Commissioners. He assumes the seat formerly held by Wayne Aycock, who stepped down after 10 years of service to the College. Aycock was honored at the meeting with a commemorative plaque recognizing his decade of dedication to WCC’s growth and development.

A seasoned public servant, Daughtery was first elected to the Wayne County Board of Commissioners in 2012 and served as board chairman from 2015 to 2016. He has since been re-elected multiple times and has held two terms on the Wayne County Board of Elections. His broad experience in both governance and community engagement positions him well to support the mission of Wayne Community College.

Beyond his role as commissioner, Daughtery is actively involved in several local boards and committees, including the Wayne County Jetport Commission, Health and Human Services Committee, Appointment Committee, and Facilities Committee. His ongoing commitment to community development reflects the multifaceted approach he brings to public service.

With his appointment to the WCC Board of Trustees, Daughtery joins a 12-member body responsible for the oversight and strategic direction of the college, as outlined by North Carolina statute. Trustees, appointed by local commissioners and the state legislature, play a vital role in institutional governance, including property management, contract approval, and legal representation.

As he steps into his new position, Daughtery expressed his intent to build upon the foundation laid by his predecessor and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of WCC. His appointment is expected to bring continued strength and vision to the board as the college navigates future challenges and opportunities.

Wayne Community College, part of the North Carolina Community College System, continues to be a cornerstone of higher education and workforce development in the region, with its board of trustees playing a critical role in its ongoing success.
