David Andrew Paynter, age 57, passed away Monday, May 12, 2025, at his home in Melbourne, FL. Born in Lakenheath, England, he was the son of the late Luther Rudoph and Molly Paynter. David was a retired Lieutenant Colonel with the United States Air Force with over 21 years of service. After retirement, he served as a Probation Officer with the state of North Carolina. He continued his service with the Air Force as a civilian serving as the Deputy Director of the AFTAC Support Squadron at Patrick Space Force Base in Florida.  

Funeral Services will be held Sunday, May 25, 2025, at Emmaus Baptist Church in Dudley, NC at 3:00 pm with Rev. Jim Willoughby officiating, Burial with full military honors will be held immediately following the service in the church cemetery. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday, May 24, 2025 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.

David is survived by his wife of 35 years, Jennifer Binkley Paynter; sons, Reese Paynter (China), Sam Paynter, Luke Paynter and Ben Paynter; siblings, Bonnie Lambert (John), Richard Paynter (Karen) and Scott Paynter (Susan);  mother-in-law, Jimmie Davis (Chuck); sister-in-law, Pam Kohnen (JR); a special grandson “on the way”; step grandchildren, Justin, Laila and Ava; many nieces and nephews.
