Goldsboro, N.C. – The Goldsboro Golden K Kiwanis Club is set to hold its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 20, at 10:00 a.m. in the fellowship hall of Daniels Chapel, located at 2802 East Ash Street. The meeting will feature a special presentation on the city’s historic ties to the railroad industry.
Jim Hinnant, a local historian and retired communications professional, will serve as the guest speaker. His presentation, titled “Goldsboro: The City of Trains,” will offer an in-depth look at how the railroad helped shape Goldsboro’s development, economy, and culture over the past century.
Once a major hub for freight and passenger rail, Goldsboro played a key role in North Carolina’s transportation network during the height of the railroad era. The city was served by several rail lines, including the Atlantic Coast Line and the Norfolk Southern Railway, which brought industry, commerce, and new residents to the area. Railroads also contributed to the growth of downtown Goldsboro and its surrounding neighborhoods, leaving a legacy still visible in the city’s infrastructure and historical sites.
The Kiwanis meeting provides an opportunity for members and guests to deepen their understanding of Goldsboro’s past while fostering civic engagement. The Golden K chapter, part of Kiwanis International, focuses on community service projects and leadership development, particularly among retired and senior members who remain active in local affairs.
The meeting is open to club members and their guests. Attendees are encouraged to arrive a few minutes early to allow time for seating and fellowship before the program begins.
