Andrea Freile Honored with Prestigious State Leadership Award

Raleigh, N.C. — Andrea Freile, Family Engagement & Communications Coordinator for Wayne County Public Schools (WCPS), has been awarded the esteemed Leadership North Carolina (LNC) Stanley Frank Class Award, a recognition presented annually to a participant whose leadership has significantly enhanced the quality of life, economic well-being, or community spirit across North Carolina.

The award was announced this week during a formal recognition ceremony, where Freile was commended not only for her exceptional service to WCPS and the broader Wayne County community, but also for her influential contributions to her LNC class and the state leaders she worked alongside.

In a powerful tribute to her impact, the North Carolina state flag was flown above the State Capitol Building from sunrise to sunset yesterday in her honor. Governor Josh Stein also offered special video remarks, celebrating Freile’s dedication and leadership.

“Ms. Freile does an outstanding job supporting our schools, families, and employees in her professional role,” said Ken Derksen, WCPS Executive Director for Community Engagement and Student & Family Support. “We congratulate her on this special recognition. It is evident that her work, passion, and leadership contributions to our school district, our county, and our state are being seen, heard, and valued by others in leadership roles across North Carolina.”

Freile’s award reflects a broader recognition of the critical role that family engagement and effective communication play in the success of public education and community development throughout the state.
